last night w/ english beat & squeeze

squeeze, especially their "singles & 45's" album, was a huge part of my cejwin upbringing & carl got me listening to the english beat when we first moved-in together, so to see 'em both live for the first-time each was pretty darn cool.

the concert was incredible.  it was a lot of fun & may i applaud my fellow middle-agers (& especially those a little past) for being able to stand & dance throughout the entire night.

thank you again to the members who posted the following clips from last night's squeeze & english beat concert onto youtube -- after finding & sharing the ones i found this morning, i was hoping for more.

maid marian on her tipped-toed feet

gotta love the internet.  once again, i go to a concert & the next morning there are already clips from it on youtube.  thank you to the fans that posted them.  this time around it's squeeze & the english beat live from the roseland ballroom, last night, april 28th, 2012.  & i'll write about the concert & check for more videos to share later.

[update, 4/30: "last night w/ english beat & squeeze"  -- that's where you'll find "pulling mussels from a shell" & some more.]

it's chuckle-time w/ patton oswalt

taking a break from netflix'ing "13 assassins" to watch patton oswalt's "finest hour" on comedy central. i already listen to the album on an almost-daily basis -- just $5 for the mp3 download on amazon -- so i really can finish the movie... i just don't want to b/c he's so fricking hysterical.

(btw, i said "assassins"... heh-heh.)

if THG was more violent & cheesy it'd be BR

just finished "battle royale." japanese film from around 2000-something that's sorta like "the hunger games," where middle (or high) school students have 3 days to fight till there's only one left or all die. this time it's done to teach those slacker teens a lesson. if you're interested in checking it out, click away... BATTLE ROYALE.

Super Sugar Crisp (Terrariums)

thank you, waffle whiffer, for posting this photo on flickr.  i totally remember those terrariums that came as the prize inside the box.  (very cool.)  i just had a bowl of "super GOLDEN crisp" about 5 minutes ago & all i got was a 20% coupon off downloadable music.  (not very cool.)

how can you go wrong w/ 30 floors of chaos?

gonna see "the raid: redemption" at the brandon on austin street w/ eppy later this afternoon.  i don't know much about it except for this:

i think you'll agree that you don't even need to watch the entire trailer to know it's got to be seen by me.

[update, 4:45pm: that was the most fun i've had at the movies in a long time -- got to even sit in the balcony, front row.  i'm all popcorn'ed out after three movies in four days (or somewhere there about), but mammaloo, that was a "great martial arts-good guys vs. bad guys" flick.  ultra-violent w/ a good story... i'm so glad i went to see it.  plus, w/ eppy there, how could it be a bad time?]

hey, you know, "the hunger games" was not too shabby

went to the matinee showing of "the hunger games" this afternoon at the midway w/ my friend tho & her family.  had a really good time & decent seats (first row on top w/ the bars infront to rest our feet) -- the theater was packed.  the movie was like "the running man" meets "logan's run," but w/ kids.  not a bad mix at all.

afterwards, we went to check out bareburger on austin street for some elk, wild boar & lamb burgers.  we all seemed pretty happy w/ our meals &'d go back again.  (thanks again for dinner, aron.)

gonna find something else 'sides "WKRP" on antenna TV to watch now.  not that i don't like the show, but i'm just not in the mood.  not "chitty chitty bang bang"... maybe "jaws"... last ten minutes of "american dad" has won, for now.

thank you, jonah hill & channing tatum

i went to see "21 jump street" at the midway w/ my mom this afternoon & boy howdy were we happy.  it was campy, funny & suprisingly ultra-violent, which was quite a nice mix -- it definitely earned it's R-rating.  plus, i don't wanna ruin it for anyone, but i will say that johnny depp does make a guest appearance & it's pretty darn incredible.

this is not a rehash of the TV series, but an extension of the story made for fans, like me, of the show.  & now i know why my friend kissi is such a big channing tatum fan.  i've always liked jonah hill & now i can add channing to my list of folks i dig.

thank you for letting me share.

now, here's the "official red band" version of the trailer that i personally appreciate:

& here's the non-cussin' version for "appropriate audiences":

please turn your head to the side

so, it turns out that i will do kinda-crazy things when left on my own.  carl & claire are not gone for 48 hours &'m already getting a new tattoo.  this time it was done at andromeda tattoo on st. mark's by ping.

see, i was out w/ my friend liz & her friend michele on thursday evening.  we were having a great time & when they went back home to jersey at 7:30pm, i headed uptown to the village.  just wasn't in the mood to go home &'ve really been wanting to do this for awhile.

i'll post a better picture another time b/c this one's too dark & does not do the colors justice.  the camera's in germany, so i used my computer to snap the shot.  plus, the lighting's just not good at 1am.

& w/ that said, "good night" to all & "happy passover" to my celebrating friends & family.

texas: a fond look back

had an incredible time in TX w/ my family at the end of march for my cousin jessi's wedding.  it was a bummer that my sisters & their kids couldn't make it, but fun was definitely had.

the first two pictures were taken at the wedding of me, my uncle eddie, my mom & my aunts jita, jan & golde.  (eddie's not in the second one actually, just noticed that now.)  i'll write my commentary as the pictures scroll down...

thanks to clonazepam, not only can i fly panic-free on a plane, but it turns out, i can also ride on the back of a motorcycle, which is something i never thought i'd do.*

so my uncle eddie tells me that the "oatmeal festival" in oatmeal, texas is held in the next town over b/c it's too small to actually have it there.  we stopped her to pick some flowers and hang out.  so glad to have him in my life.

now, in no way are these pictures in order b/c the following were taken at the rehearsal dinner & the day after the wedding.  (btw, i'll get photos of the bride & groom as soon as i can.)

claire eating breakfast at the barton creek resort.  she got a kick out of the belgian waffle bar.

jupiter & venus on the night of the wedding.

claire & a couple of the chihuahuas at eddie & jan's.

& that's it for the photos that i have so far.

remember me?

last i posted, venus & jupiter could be seen thisclose together in the sky.  i think i only posted 4 times last month -- a new low for me since i started paying attention to this blog.

any old ways, i'd love to post about everything that's gone on since (ie: conquered fear of planes & motorcycles in one trip to TX, lots of volunteer work for claire's PA, etc.), but i've got to help carl finish packing for his trip w/ claire to germany & france.  though i did say i'm not afraid to fly anymore, just a couple sentences back, i didn't mean to say that my next flight would be close to 10 hours long.  a girl's got to know her limitations.

okie-doke, photos n' stuff like that to come later.  gonna listen to some matthew sweet now, while i put the presents for the german friends & relatives together.

[update: 10:19am, i've been told to turn off the music.]

[update: 10:21am, i've been told that i'm driving the family to newark airport instead of "just the bronx."  can't i be told to do something good?]
