saturday the 14th

who out there remembers this really-not-good richard benjamin movie from 1981?  & yes, that's the eldest daughter (katie) from "gimme a break" in it.

goodnight, fat ali

not sure who remembers "fat ali" from yorkville/upper east side during the '70s & '80s besides me, my sister bonni, my friend kissi & a handful of others, but i'm linking below a blog post i found about his reign of terror as the neighborhood bully & eventual passing -- not sure when he died b/c no date is listed.  fat ali used to also live on east 82nd street -- on the corner from kissi & up the block from us. once he threatened to eat my dog when i was walking by, but other than that, some menacing looks & belligerent rantings, he left us alone. not many were as lucky as us. he would beat-up & terrorize kids on a regular basis. i never understood how he got away w/ it for so long -- i mean, we're talking decades -- but at least i know now i can walk york avenue w/out fear.

[update: just a short bit after i posted this i found TWO facebook groups devoted to him & his victims' stories: Fat Ali (Fat Alley) Mugged Me (or someone I know) & Victims of Fat Ali.  guess i was wrong about thinking he'd be forgotten.]

be a pseudo-producer & save children, too

here's another donation plea for someone dear to me that i'm glad to say does not have to be used towards finding a cure to a disease or funding a transplant for him:

millions & millions of children in the US are being exposed to a deadly neurotoxin by way of lead-poisoning & my friend daniel marracino is making a documentary about this issue.

dan's been financing this project by himself & is now looking to get 10,000 people to donate a dollar each to the cause via kickstarter -- it's tax-deductible.  if you can't donate, please at least pass this along to help spread the word & make this world a safer place for our children.

for more information, to view a trailer of the film, or, most-importantly, to contribute, please click the widget below...

& if that doesn't work, just click on this URL -- it ain't as fancy, but it'll do the job... http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/leadsafeamerica/americas-secret-epidemic

thanks.

i still haven't told claire everything yet

(thank you, asylum.)

my wish for 2012

sure, "peace" & "love" would be nice -- heck, it's written on the family holiday card this season -- but what i really want this year is to go to the new orleans jazz & bamboozle festivals -- tom petty, foo fighters & then some are on their lineups.  sure, it's not a practical desire -- unemployed, full-time mom... don't see it -- but if anyone out there is interested in pursuing this piepdream of mine w/ me, just send a DM.

seriously?!?

two upcoming TV series that'll be airing shortly.  these should set humanity back a few decades, though i'm not exactly sure who'll be watching.

happy 45, carl, part II

here's a sneak peek at your birthday present -- it's not the actual ball, but it looks like it.  it's signed by reggie jackson &'ll arrive at the end of this week.

happy birthday.

happy 45, carl

in honor of your birthday & thanks to youtube, i post the worst magician/comedian we've ever seen -- he's no mel zetz, that's for sure...

52 in hooker years is like 104 in regular person years

thank you, internet

claire & i found a pretty groovy present for carl's birthday tomorrow.  i ain't gonna say what it is now, just in case his eyes spy this post, but it should definitely make him happy (or at least happier than he was when he opened his past couple of gifts from me).

after all these years & i'm still a schmuck

well, it's that time of year again when i realize that carl's birthday is in one day & i've got nothing for him.  no card.  no gift.  nothing.

i've got to come up w/ some brilliant idea stat b/c i'll feel badly if i putz out on his 45th, especially after falling short over the holidays w/ his presents -- mr. show on DVD (we used to watch it when we first moved in together) & LA noire for the ps3 (no real reason, just b/c) --  he wasn't too jazzed by either.

gonna bake something for him now & try to come up w/ a strategy.  i do know i'm not going to the mall.  he may be my husband & father of my child, but that ain't enough for me to deal w/ the intense crowds.

[update: it's almost 3pm.  chocolate fudge cakes are in the oven & i'm about to scour the internet w/ claire for a really cool birthday gift.]
