so, hurricane irene was rather luckluster in the rain and wind department here in forest hills. not that i was hoping for electricity loss or worse, but c'mon, weren't you expecting just a little bit more?

the car is running again. it was the battery -- which carl changed this morning -- and nothing else. cool beans.

bottles of water, candles and batteries are at hand -- may we not need to use 'em.

even claire's gotten into the swing of preparedness by making sure all her gadgets and gizmos are charged-up. (gotta love the putch.)

i can't believe they're going to shut down the subways and buses. that'll be a first for the city. got till noon tomorrow to do any mass public transporting.

the ol' grey hyundai just ain't what she used to be

so, after (luckily) claire and i got back from adventureland today (which, yeah, was a blast -- go, frisbee), the car died. hopefully, it's just battery woes and a new one'll bring it back to life. we'll find out tomorrow after a trip to sears auto shop.

despite the burnt feet

had a good time w/ my sister, friend and our kids at the beach today. dang me though for not putting sunscreen on my feet and left ankle... they're on fire.

here's a clip of claire's performance in "once on this island" at the queens college theater camp from this past friday -- there is another show tomorrow morning, but i'm not gonna tape it.

the putch plays "andrea," a "villager," a "narrator" and a "front headlight." the video below is "andrea's sequence," so in it she's "andrea."

busy day, not-so-busy night

went to the museum of natural history and central park w/ claire and carl today. did a lot of walking, which made me feel not-so-guilty about our "video game & movie" marathon when we got home -- the game, "little big planet 2"... the movie, "osmosis jones" -- before claire's bedtime.

missed the beginning of "strike back" on cinemax, so it looks like "mega shark vs. crocosaurus" on syfy for tonight. (dayenu.)

just got back w/ the family from the irish cottage before the rain started... nice.

now we're gonna top off the evening w/ a viewing of "paul." may it not schmeck like ass.

just purged 8 big-ass bags of clothes. and, may i add... i emptied my dresser drawers and closet and managed to put everything away before the camp bus arrived.

tho, carl and i are taking the kids to see "rise of the planet of the apes" tonight. may it be better than some of the dreck i've been subjected to lately.

the "glee concert in 3D" movie sucked like a hoover on high. walked out before it was even half-way through and caught the end of "the smurfs" -- not my choice ("the smurfs" part, that is), but when you're w/ two tween girls, you do what you gotta do.
